I am pleased to introduce Lent with St John, a series of seasonal reflections based on selected passages from the Gospel of St John, given by students, staff, trustees and friends of St John’s. It is good to continue the tradition that brings together the insight of so many people connected with the college, who will journey with you through this season by offering their thoughts and prayers as a guide and inspiration. We hope that the range of contributions, both in subject matter and medium, will strengthen you to draw closer to Jesus as he travels towards those key events of Good Friday and Easter Day. We are experimenting for the first time with an online resource of prose, poems, pictures, videos and music, which will be made accessible to over 5000 people who have been invited to log on each day in Lent as each new passage and reflection is revealed. The very breadth of this resource is testimony to the rich variety of people who make up the St John’s community, and to the way we seek to inspire and enrich the faith of all people, whoever and wherever you are.
St John’s has trained men and women for many kinds of ministry for over 150 years, first in London and later moving almost 50 years ago to Nottingham. We proudly continue the tradition of opening up theology to all people regardless of position or situation, equipping the ministry of lay and ordained in their service of God in the fulfilment of many vocations. By introducing innovative ways to prepare people for ministry, St John’s has always been at the forefront of Christian educational developments, most recently in the provision of online distance learning, open to all. This, along with the highly regarded training for youth and children’s ministry, is part of what St John’s will take into the future as it seeks to meet the needs of the Church, both in the UK and abroad. We remain committed to creative Christian learning founded on the Evangelical faith of those who have nurtured and supported St John’s for many years.
Thank you to the many who have contributed reflections and to those who have worked hard to create this resource making it available to thousands of people. We are already turning our thoughts to Advent with St John's, and we welcome any comments and feedback you might have. Maybe as part our community you would like to contribute to the next series. Most of all my prayer is that Lent with St John will deepen your discipleship and draw you closer to the Jesus Christ, Crucified and Risen.
