After nearly 7 years as a member of our academic staff, Mark Rodel, Tutor in Practical Theology is to take up a new appointment in the Diocese of Ely. He will be joining the Mission and Ministry Team as Fresh Expressions and Pioneer Advisor, succeeding Ed Olsworth-Peter, now National Pioneer Development Officer for the Church of England. In this new role Mark will be involved in resourcing, training and coaching missional leaders as well as supporting congregations in their new mission ventures. Mark was originally appointed as Tutor in Pioneer Ministry at St John’s, overseeing the development of a pathway for pioneering ministers. In more recent years, he has also contributed to developing new partnership opportunities for the college. He has combined this enterprising work with leading a two-parish benefice in the development of its own new initiatives in mission as Pioneer Minister and Vicar for Lady Bay and Holme Pierrepont.
Mark says that of his time at St John’s that, ‘it has been a great privilege to have had the opportunity to contribute to the formation of pioneering women and men for ministry in the Church of England and in other churches. It has been hugely challenging at times to balance two roles in a rapidly evolving situation in both parish and college, but I’m grateful for all that these experiences have given me in preparing me for the next season of ministry. I will be sad to leave behind both colleagues and parishioners, but at the same time, I’m hugely excited to be joining a diocese so committed to developing fresh expressions and sharing the learning for all its congregations, and to have a new opportunity to make a wider contribution as Christians across the Diocese seek to engage, grow and deepen.’
Mark takes up his new post in July. We shall be praying for Mark and his family as they plan and prepare their move to Ely.
