Summer School - Ecology and the Bible

Has the New Testament a vision for the whole Planet?

Leading evangelical Ronald Sider warns: 'If we do not offer biblical foundations for environmental actions, we will have only ourselves to blame if environmental activists turn to other, finally inadequate, worldviews and religions'. What is our distinctive Christian witness in this age? We look at Thomas Merton's prayer: Let my eyes see nothing in the world but Your glory, and let my hands touch nothing that is not for your service. We will ask ourselves to what extent we as bearers of God image are praying or not praying these words. We will place this prayer alongside some New Testament texts and the Old Testament's teaching about creation and unpack what the gospel is for the whole of creation. In sum, the New Testament is about forming a community of care making each action a service to God's creation so God's glory may shine on earth.
