Distance Learning

St John's Extension Studies offers distance learning programmes and short residential courses. We offer both university study and more flexible programmes which we accredit ourselves.

Self Accredited Study

We offer programmes for people who want to study but need more time to complete than university courses allow. You can choose either to follow one of the programmes of study we offer or opt to take individual modules as and when you wish, leaving open the question of signing up to a programme of study until you are ready.

Certificate in Christian Studies An introduction to the study of theology, the certificate brings together key strands of Christian theology in a way that helps you see their relevance to discipleship and ministry. There is great flexibility over choice of modules and time frames within which you complete modules.

The Intermediate Certificate in Christian Studies is designed to provide people with a flexible programme of theological and ministerial studies. Students have complete control over the choice of modules they study within the range provided by St John's College Extension Studies department. The modules have been produced to enable students to develop knowledge and understanding of the Bible, and Christian theology, tradition and practice so that they are better equipped for ministry within their churches. We recognise that students have many different reasons for entering this programme of study. We hope that the flexibility we offer enables students to focus on the areas in which they seek to develop personally.

Residential Short Courses

We offer a variety of short courses on campus. Most take place over a weekend or a working week. At the centre of the campus stands a Grade II listed Georgian building which is the academic heart of the college. The college buildings are set in beautiful grounds which provide space for relaxation and reflection. A welcoming Christian community, we place worship and fellowship a the centre of all our activities. Our experience is that people who come away for residential short courses appreciate and value this focus. Our short courses have an excellent tutor/student ratio and there is plenty of opportunity for interaction between students and with tutors.
